DENSO is one of the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers of ignition technology, including spark plugs.
We were the first company to produce long-life automotive Iridium spark plugs, and invented the world’s smallest, most efficient 0.4mm Iridium tip.
With 97% market coverage in Australia and DENSO’s unsurpassed reputation for technological superiority.
As an OE manufacturer of glow plugs for leading automotive suppliers around the world, DENSO's Glow Plug range encompasses all current glow plug technologies including single coil, double coil, extended postheating, ceramic glow plugs and instant heating.
DENSO developed the auto industry’s first compact stick-type ignition coil which has since been adopted by many of the world’s leading automakers. The space-saving design requires no high-tension ignition cable, fitting neatly into the engine’s spark plug bore.
DENSO’s Iridium saver spark plugs are a range of high efficiency, long-life spark plugs for industrial gas engines that use iridium technology to increase plug life and performance; reducing maintenance costs achieved by the extended plug life in high pressure, lean-burn engines.
The DENSO difference:
- High dielectric ceramics
- Newly developed ceramics with finer grain, molded-in higher pressure and higher density prevents electrical breakdown of insulator.
- Highly reliable monolithic resistor
- Guaranteed high reliability for withstanding high combustion pressures by incorporating a stress resistant monolithic resistor that adheres to the resistor glass in the high temperature furnace.
- In addition, this eliminates interference to electronic equipment from high energy coil noise.
- Special Nickel plating with better corrosive resistance
- Better corrosive resistance for condensed acid water.
- Cross grove design (M18 mm Plug)
- Four small electrodes create a cross groove which improves sparking performance and suppresses dispersion in voltage value, for an outstanding decrease in required voltage.
- Unique Iridium Alloy
- Iridium alloy – developed and patented by DENSO – offers a high welding point which dramatically improves wear resistance compared to other Iridium plugs.
- 360° Laser welding
- So reliable the electrode resists wear even under the most extreme engine conditions.
- Proving Longer Life
Using its patented Iridium alloy, DENSO was able to shrink the center electrode to 0.7mm, dramatically improving ignitability and longevity.
Iridium OE Spark Plug
By harnessing the power of iridium, DENSO were able to shrink the surface area of the centre electrode tip. A smaller tip allows the spark to expand in a greater area, maximising firing performance improving acceleration with smoother idle in comparison with normal plugs.
Iridium Power Spark Plug
For maximum performance under the most extreme conditions, you can’t go past DENSO Iridium Power spark plugs. Through patented technology, including a 0.4mm diameter centre electrode - the Iridium Power plug produces the hottest, most concentrated spark with the lowest voltage and outperforms any plug today.
It is no secret that Iridium is 6 x harder, 8 x stronger and could take temperatures of 650°C hotter than platinum (i.e. exceeding 2454°C).

The DENSO difference:
- Iridium Power uses DENSO’s patented U-Groove ground electrode to achieve maximum ignitability while minimizing required voltage.
- At 0.4mm in diameter, the DENSO Iridium Power center electrode tip is the world’s smallest.

There wasn’t a welding tool hot enough to melt an iridium electrode tip to a nickel base. That is until DENSO pioneered their patented Laser Welding Process that provides a 360° seal so reliable the electrode resists wear even in the worst conditions.
Improved Firing Performance
To improve firing performance, the contact area between the electrode and the flame nucleus needs to be reduced in size. This is why the electrode was made as fine as possible to a diameter of 0.4mm. Compared to normal Spark Plugs, with a spark gap of 0.8mm, the ignitability limits are better by 2.5.
Lower Required Voltage
The required voltage in the Iridium Power plugs is between 3 & 5 kv less than normal plugs. This is due to the ultra-fine 0.4mm diameter ground electrode and U-groove design. Because required voltage is kept low, Iridium Power can be used in high performance engines and for high response driving.
When an engine is idling, firing can become particularly bad. Because Iridium Power plugs have a low required voltage and high ignitability, sparking continues to work properly during idling. Whereas normal plugs have highly variable revolution counts, Iridium Power plugs maintain very smooth idling. Also, because combustion is good, the explosive energy raises the revolution count.
Improved Engine Performance
Iridium Power spark plugs enhance the performance of an engine. Acceleration is improved when compared against normal spark plugs.
Decreased Fuel Consumption
When Iridium Power spark plugs are used, accidental fire and misfiring rarely occurs under various driving conditions. Therefore, combustion is extremely good. In turn, a healthy engine can be maintained and fuel consumption improved.
Iridium Tough Spark Plug
Using the same patented 360° laser welding process as the Iridium Power spark plug, DENSO designed the long-life Iridium Tough plug which is fast becoming the standard for today’s high-tech engines. Designed for durability under the most extreme conditions, DENSO’s patented Iridium alloy is six times harder and eight times stronger than conventional Platinum making it possible to shrink the center electrode to 0.7mm, dramatically improving ignitability and longevity.

The DENSO difference:
- Engineered with the smallest tip in the market, the DENSO Iridium TT spark plug delivers more complete combustion, giving you superior fuel economy over any other plug.
- The Iridium TT is designed to last beyond 100,000 km.
- Less stock, same coverage: TT Plugs cover many applications with fewer part references.
The most advanced technology in the world has been employed to enable use of an electrode only 0.4 mm in diameter. The smaller the electrode the more concentrated the electric potential at the tip. This results in more complete combustion which is good for all types of driving - the engine starts easily, there are fewer misfiers, acceleration improves along with fuel economy.

Nickel Spark Plug
Even DENSO’s “standard” spark plug is something special. The innovative U-Groove design that helped to make DENSO spark plugs famous, employs a unique, channeled ground electrode designed to generate a larger spark at the point of ignition. Greater spark energy than ordinary plugs means improved flame travel, producing more complete, consistent, and efficient combustion.

DENSO’s revolutionary Twin-Tip design.
The additional tip on the ground electrode results in less obstruction of spark growth, while still maintaining the same gap. Less interference at the spark origin (quenching) means better ignitability for a more powerful and fuel efficient combustion.
Due to its excellent ignitability there is better combustion - even with leaner mixtures, resulting in less misfiring than a standard plug. Tests show that when comparing a Standard Plug to a TT Plug, fuel consumption improves by up to 5%, meaning those regular and longer journeys become more economical.
