History

DENSO has a proud history in the area of alternators and starters.

1950

DC Dynamos/Starters

1965

DENSO develops its first alternator

1970s

Developed IC regulators and Pinion Shift Type starters

1980

Introduced Reduction Type starters which were less than half the weight of the Pinion Shift type

1990s

Small Reduction Type starters

1999

Acquired Magnetti Marelli Rotating Division

2000

DENSO introduced the world’s first segment conductor (SC) alternator using a rectangular conductor for its stator coil. Due to the fact that it increases the winding density (space factor) from 45% to 70%, the SC alternator is 20 percent lighter and produces 50 percent more electric power than a conventional alternator

2001

DENSO launched the world’s first belt-driven integrated starter generator (ISG) that integrated the starter with the alternator. DENSO’s small, long-life ISG allows the engine to instantly and quietly restart after an idle stop

2001

DENSO introduced the world’s first Planetary Reduction Segment Conductor starter featuring a square conductor in the armature coil. The PS starter was 22 percent lighter and 14 percent shorter than the RA starter, and resulted in improved fuel efficiency and mountability in the vehicle
